july 2012

Last weekend my mom went with us to visit family in Mississippi and had a super duper fun time.
As usual, I should have taken more pictures.
(excuse me while I blame shift this!)
It was just too hot to take pictures and had nothing to do with the fact that I was too focused on good conversation and cute shoes in the windows of Oxford's stores.

We met my Uncle Bill, Aunt Jo, and Aunt Nancy then went to see Loren and Brandon's sweet baby and their first home in Water Valley.

Best mom ever, Aunt Jo, Hadley

And again
Aunt Jo, Hadley, Aunt Nancy, myself

Uncle Bill
Hadley's light fixture.  Isn't it neat-o?
Loren's creative sign she made.  Also neat-o!
We had lunch in Oxford at Old Venice Pizza then did a little shopping.  It was Oxford's birthday so there were fun little sidewalk sales in front of some stores.  Oxford is just beautiful!

The Square in Oxford

She's so pretty.  I have the best momma ever.
Hubby was able to see the Ole Miss campus for the first time.  He really enjoyed it!
The Lyceum
Walk of Champions
Then we went to my grandmother's house in Dumas for a magnificent dinner and a little quality time with my cousin Jonathan who is leaving to go live overseas with his family in a couple of months.
Lots of special memories made!
I always have the best time when we visit!  My aunts are so funny and in their different ways, much like my mom.  I usually spend a lot of time laughing, which is alright by me.  Mostly though, I enjoy spending time with my mom and seeing her so happy around her family.

Back here in Alabama...
I made turkey/tomato/arugula/avacado/cream cheese whole wheat wraps.  They were yummy and easy.  As a side I made sweet potato chips.  They were yummy and not so easy.
Note to self:  buy a slicer!
Hubs had pretty pink roses waiting on me when I walked in from the office Monday.  I may have said this a time or two before, but I'm absolutely in love with that sweet man of mine!
We spent July 4th at our pool soaking in the sun and chatting with each other.  It was SO relaxing!
We ordered a pizza after and crashed!
Polly loves watching tv and surfing the web.  She's a nut!
My mom and I did a little shopping this week...
(isn't she pretty!)
and she got her ears pierced!  I just got mine done last November and since then she has talked about wanting to get hers done.  Go mom!
Now, it's FRIDAY!
If you're looking for a little adult beverage to sip on your porch later...
The Lazy Magnolia Southern Pecan is sold in stores here and his made in Kiln, MS.  No, I don't like it just because it's from MS.  It truly is delicious with a hint of pecan!
Abita Strawberry is new this year and is divine.  Not sweet.  Not sour.  Simply divine!

Wowza.
This was a long post.
We're off to the lake tomorrow with family.  Hopefully I'll take some pictures as proof!

  Have a faaantastic weekend!

june 2012

This has been a weeeek!
It started out a little rough, but my sweet man smoothed it over with flowers, a card, my favorite snack, and my favorite take out.  Yep, he's that good.

Here we are, mere hours from another weekend!
Ahhhh, two days of sleeping in.  Alright, so I don't really sleep past 8.
BUT.
I do get to wake up and drive to pick up donuts while sipping coffee rather than drive to work.
ALSO.
Whether I sleep late or not, at least the option remains.
I like options.

I do not like this hot weather.
Why do people in Alabama enjoy Summer?
Is it sweating during the short walk to the mail box that entices them?
Maybe it's getting into a car that's temperature is equivalent to a slow cooker?
Let's face it.  No amount of deodorant is sufficient in this heat.
Running in this heat is brutal!  I have to wait until at least after 5:30 to start now...which completely interferes with my cooking time.  It's a shame really.  If I could run earlier like I'm able to in the months that don't portray the heat of Hell then I would cook every single night.  I would cook 5 course meals from scratch while wearing a pretty little dress with a matching pretty little apron and shiny heels.  I would bake a fresh cake every day that would put all the ones on Pinterest to shame.  I would make fresh tea that Paula Deen herself would admire.
Gosh, too bad.

Since I didn't cook this week, I was able to spend a little extra time with our fur kids.
Polly and Bill have started spending a lot of play time together.  As a result, they both seem to be worn out in the evenings...which makes for cute pictures!
(Excuse the quality, these are from my cell phone)

Sweet B

Polly.
Going.

Going.

Gone.

And Dale!  Dale has super dog ears!
(note Polly in mid-air behind him)
(also note that animals are not allowed on the bed and were shewed off after this picture)

I can't think of a better way to end a post than with super dog ears.
Hubs and I are looking forward to spending some time at the pool and sipping frozen cocktails on a patio somewhere...preferably somewhere that serves chips and salsa.

Adios Amigos!

june 2012

So...
We went to the Freshworks Fest in Birmingham at the Jones Valley teaching farm last Saturday with my MIL to see my SIL model in the Molly Green fashion show.  Such a fun day!

Hubs munched on some Italian sausage.

I had a guacamole flavoried popsicle from Steel City Pops.  So yummy!

On Sunday we celebrated Father's Day at my parent's house.
We feasted on shrimp, steak and pineapple cake - divine!
Dad got a grill!

And now for some random photos that my SIL sent me...

Have a wonderful week!

Sunday, June 10, 2012

Hello!

I hope everyone had a wonderful weekend.  They just aren't long enough, are they?

I hung out with my mom Saturday morning, then hubs and I headed to Ken and Leslie's wedding shower.  It was beautiful and we had a super duper time.  We've spent Sunday on the couch.  Cause it's rainy outside and all.  Too bad.  If it would have been a sunny day I would have ran 4 miles with weights on my wrists and ankles while juggling apples, taken Dale for a walk then let him swim and I wouldn't have dreaded giving him a bath after, detailed the interior and exterior of my car, and probably cured cancer.  Like I said, too bad.
Here's a few pictures of the felines...

(yes, Polly is curled in a ball while sleeping)

This was for dinner.
Another meal brought to us by Skinnytaste.
Fairly fantastic and most importantly guilt free.

Have you seen those Pier 1 commercials that tell you to find something that speaks to you?  Well, I went to Pier 1 and kept leaning over to see if different pictures or vases were speaking to me.  Nope.  But this pillow was.  It wanted to come home with me - and I can't say no to a purdy little pillow!  Isn't she lovely?

Have a great week!

It's Friday night and I'm in bed.
I can't think of anywhere else I'd rather be right now.
The joys of approaching 30.  :)

Last weekend we celebrated Kayt's 21st birthday...

Happy Birthday to our smart, beautiful, kind, animal loving, hard working, dependable, generous, thoughtful, Kayt!

I tried reading Jen Lancaster's 'Bitter is the New Black: Confessions of a Condescending, Egomaniacal, Self-Centered Smart@ss, Or, Why You Should Never Carry A Prada Bag to the Unemployment Office' last weekend at the pool and I have to say - - I wasn't thrilled.  Given, I didn't read past the first chapter before putting it down...but I really didn't want to read any more than that.  Here's to hoping it gets more interesting.  I really want it to, I like Jen Lancaster!
Polly.
She attacks the boyz, our feet, and anything else that moves...or doesn't move.  Her meow is like a siren.  Lucky for her, she's really, really, really, really cute!
For the record, whichever record that may be, I am not turning into a cat person  Not that there's anything wrong with being one - I'm just not.  The other day I was at the grocery store buying cat food and didn't want the lady working the register to think I only had cats - then assume I'm a cat person - so I bought a can of dog food.  Just one can.  I think I made my point.
For the other record, I have been known to frequent that grocery store without makeup and maybe a couple times with wet hair (oh stop, my hair is thick and takes close to 25 minutes to dry with a hair dryer).  My point is, I'm not one to care what the public thinks about me...so long as they don't think I'm a cat person.
Not that there's anything wrong with that.

This week has been weird for me.  For some reason I'm overly emotional and really tired.  I've had knots in my stomach, lumps in my throat - and I couldn't tell you why.  There haven't been any new life events that would bring any of this on, so I'm going to tell myself I'm just exhausted.  I hope I get some rest tonight because this uneasiness is unrelenting.
