august 2012

Congratulations to the Shannon's!

Their wedding was so much fun!
CJ showed off his dance skills and I...eh...I don't have dance skills.  I have moves.  My moves sort of have a strong resemblance to a couple of movie scenes because I may or may not have tried to memorize the dances at one point or another.
Check 'em out.
Napoleon Dynamite Dance Scene
&
...yep.
Totally awesome, dude.
I didn't get a picture of me and the hubs together, but I did snap this quick one.
  He's so handsome!
We've been busy trying to finish refurbishing furniture before our move in ONE month.  We're covered in sand paper residue and polyurethane most days of the week lately!  I suppose that's why this post is so short...there's only so much I can say about paint colors and finishes...and my brain is probably a little foggy from painting indoors.  Woopsie!
Tonight I made Thai Curry Coconut Shrimp from Skinnytaste.
YUMMM.
Dessert?  Yes, please.
(Skinny) Cheesecake with chocolate crust...plus the chocolate pie my mom just brought me.  I must run, I have sweets to eat!

Have a wonderful week, lovelies!

august 2012

My thoughts are all over the place lately, so chances are this post will be a direct reflection of that.

Hubby's boss gave us lots of venison and fresh vegetables and peppers from his garden.  I made venison vegetable soup and jalapeno cornbread.  I've used the same recipe for the soup every year.  We love it.

I recently made Skinnytaste's recipe for Dirty Brown Rice with Shrimp and it was delicious.  In fact, it may be a favorite from that site.  Yet again, another win for Skinnytaste.  Try it!

We made some wall art.

We gave our bookshelf a face lift.

These kids are doing just fine.  They love watching us work on projects.  The other night after hubs and I came in from dinner, he opened the door for me and saw all of them staring at us - then said, "Oh gosh!  Why are there so many of them?"
Ha!

We bought a couch that will be delivered to our new home the day we move in.  We're pretty excited about it!

Our 8 chairs and dining room table are coming along. We're almost done. I can't wait to post before and after pictures!

We also went to the beach, but that will be another post.

I am thrilled it's the weekend!
My sweet husband is about to take me on a much needed date night and tomorrow we'll be celebrating with Ken and Leslie at their wedding.  So excited to see Leslie walk down the isle!
I hope you have a fantastic weekend!

Please say a prayer - and keep praying - for my parents.  My family has had a very difficult few weeks.  I don't know how I could have gotten through some days without my Faith, my supportive husband, Aunt Nancy, Aunt Jo, Aunt Jane, and Ginger.

august 2012

Tonight, I decided that I wanted to pick up Chick-fil-A for dinner. I was simply craving their waffle fries. Imagine my surprise when I neared my turn only to spot a line going out the door and cars wrapped around the building.

Then I remembered.
Ahhh.
If I agree with what an employee of a fast food restaurant said about marriage, then I most certainly should show my support by ordering a #1 with a diet coke. Because nothing says more about my stance on social issues than where I eat my chicken sandwich.

Then I also remembered.
I should find out which fast food restaurant has the same view as I do on foreign policies.
And government spending.
And...
It's laughable, no?

So I drove to Milo's.
Not to prove a point, but because I wasn't sitting in line for twenty minutes to wait for my dinner. I was hungry. Hungry doesn't suit me well.
I don't know, nor do I care, what any employee at Milo's or any other restaurant has to say about marriage.  I don't particularly care what they have to say about anything.
I just want my food.

I don't care if Bob marries Mike.
I don't care if Betty marries Mary.
I don't care who marries who.

Because it's just not my business.

august 2012

You know those days when you feel mentally maxed out?
Last week I felt I had too much on my plate.  It was as though I was a kid in the cafeteria being served heaping spoon fulls of junk that I didn't want, all while saying, "no thanks!"

There were times when I wanted to scream or cry.
There were times when I wanted to scream and cry.
Instead, I prayed.
And I remembered to be still.
Psalm 37:7-9, James 1:19-20

Sometimes you just have to roll with the punches.

In other news not related to me taking a visit to Crazy Town...

We've been refurbishing a table and eight chairs that my wonderfully sweet SIL gave us.  We're going to use it in the dining room at our new house.  No before and after photos yet!  I promised the hubs we'd wait until we're all done.
But here's one with primer on it!

Hubs and I made this cute little wall art.  It didn't take long at all.

Because he loves me.

Ah, next week.
(I'm already getting anxiety about leaving my angel dog)

Last weekend my Aunt Jo, Uncle Bill, and cousin Victoria came to Birmingham.  I was so excited for their visit!  I hadn't seen Victoria in a long time.  We had lunch at Cheesecake Factory and went shopping.  We had a blast!!

Olympics!
We've watched a lot of gymnastics and swimming and I may or may not have done google searches for pictures of Kate Middleton at the games.  Go USA!

Even when life's frustrations seem overwhelming, there are sweet little blessings sprinkled in the mix.  That's what makes this short time here all the more special, sweet little blessings.

Almost the weekend!
